Whether you live in a rural community with no neighbors for miles, the bustling big city, or the friendly suburbs, when you\u2019ve got a patio, you can enjoy the great outdoors just steps from the creature comforts of home.<\/p>\n<p>If you are not taking full advantage of this space, you\u2019re missing out! Fortunately, you don\u2019t need to spend a ton of money to make your patio cozy and appealing. You don\u2019t need to invest in an expensive matching patio set. An inexpensive plastic patio table and chairs work just fine! Dress them up with colorful chair cushions, and they\u2019ll become comfortable and cute. Make sure the table you choose has an umbrella hole in the center. If you prefer a rustic look, scour flea markets and thrift shops for vintage chairs.<\/p>\n<p>If your patio has space for additional seating, but you don\u2019t want to spend money on more furniture, repurpose what you already have. If you have large coolers or deck boxes, simply top them with colorful outdoor pillows and they can double as additional seating. Hammocks and porch swings are also relatively inexpensive, fun, patio seating options. An eclectic decorating style is a charming decorating style \u2013 and eclectic is always budget friendly!<\/p>\n<h3>Add Area Rugs<\/h3>\n<p>Indoor-outdoor rugs are great ways to define your patio space. You can place one under your patio table and chairs, and place another one in your secondary \u201cconversational seating\u201d area. An added bonus, besides the aesthetic appeal, is that rugs feel much better to bare feet.<\/p>\n<h3>Add Shade<\/h3>\n<p>A patio umbrella is another inexpensive yet essential item for your patio makeover. A patio umbrella actually serves three important purposes: It provides shade on a hot, sunny day; it keeps you dry when it\u2019s misty or rainy; and it provides a pop of color to your patio.<\/p>\n<h3>Add Lighting<\/h3>\n<p>Nighttime is prime patio time, because you can sit outside and enjoy the moon and the stars. Tiki torches, tabletop candles, hanging lanterns, and solar path lights are all inexpensive ways to add ambiance. You can also string white holiday lights for a year-round festive mood.<\/p>\n<h3>Add Plants<\/h3>\n<p>Tall potted plants will dress up your patio and add an element of nature. Depending on the season and where you live, palms, ficus trees, and hibiscus are great choices. Herbs, geraniums, gerbera daisies, and marigolds are also container-friendly and pretty.<\/p>\n<h3>Add a Pathway<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re handy and up for a project, why not make a pathway from your house to your patio? With a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.budget101.com\/content.php\/502-How-to-build-a-faux-stone-walkway\" target=\"_blank\">concrete rock form<\/a> you can make one for less than $40! First, sketch out where you want the pathway. Clear out any grass or debris and level the area. Then, simply lay the form where you want to begin your pathway, fill with concrete, let it dry, remove the form, and repeat until you\u2019ve completed your pathway.<\/p>\n<h3>Add a Cabana<\/h3>\n<p>Another fun patio idea, if you know your way around a toolbox and are comfortable operating power tools, is a DIY patio cabana. You can make one out of <a href=\"https:\/\/diyprojects.ideas2live4.com\/2016\/09\/30\/diy-outdoor-cabana-lounge\/\" target=\"_blank\">wood<\/a> and top it with sailcloth or a plain white sheet. Place it above your seating area, and your patio will take on the feel of an outdoor room.<\/p>\n<h3>Add Warmth<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019ll be enjoying your patio in the cooler months, add a chimenea fireplace or inexpensive fire pit. You can find them for less than $30! Besides adding warmth and ambiance, you can use it to burn those pesky twigs that collect in your yard, and even roast marshmallows!<\/p>\n<h3>Spruce Up What Is Already There<\/h3>\n<p>If you already have a patio but it has seen better days, you don\u2019t necessarily have to replace what you have. Instead, repair and refresh it! If you have a wooden deck that\u2019s old and tired looking, fix it. Loose boards? Nail them back in. Missing boards? Replace those. Pressure wash the entire thing, let it dry, then apply stain in a color that speaks to you. Last but not least, add a waterproof sealant.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a patio, you\u2019re fortunate to have a potentially amazing outdoor living and entertaining space.
