Petite Patio Inspirations for Apartment Dwellers in Urban Areas

Living in a smaller space doesn’t necessarily mean compromising style and trendy décor. After you settle into an apartment, you’ll definitely want to consider livening up each area, no matter how small. Don’t forget to include the patio in your plans! This will be your favorite spot to kick back and relax or to entertain friends once you add just the right touches. Sometimes, when it comes to apartment life, you have to think small to make a big impression. Consider some of these petite patio inspirations for apartment dwellers living in urban areas.

1. Bohemian Style

You moved to the city for all the fantastic activity. You love to walk outside and hear music playing from a local bistro or a random sidewalk band on special occasions. Stepping out into the more chaotic streets of the city doesn’t stress you out. Instead, maybe it is exciting and fun for when you are living in the moment.
Despite your love of city life, maybe you want to create a calm and chill atmosphere on your back patio. It is your place to unwind and enjoy the feeling of being part of the city life, yet still detached enough to relax.

For the perfect bohemian look, you only need some tiny additions to your lawn chairs and side tables. Place some small plants in small, decorative pots. Cute pots can be made easily with basic terracotta with rope hot glued around it. Real or fake, small plants will add some delightful, earthy charm. Tiny cactus plants are a perfect addition to this look.

While you’re out browsing some shops, grab a few tiny pillows that reflect your bohemian style. They may include pictures of elephants, a mosaic print, or something with an organic texture. Place some unique mugs on a serving tray. Add a splash of color with a uniquely hippie wind chime. The real trick to creating a great bohemian space is to perfectly balance neutral earthy tones with bright, eye-catching details. The perfect lighting for this style would be fluorescent rope lights that could be hung around railings or furniture.

2. Farmhouse Décor

The simplicity of farmhouse décor on an apartment patio is perfect if you want a clean and homey space. This creates a country feel even if you’re right in the middle of an urban area. You can find plenty of petite patio features that not only fit your space but also fit your budget.

Any kind of vintage sign is a great addition to the outdoor space. Tiny lanterns, a watering can, or some old mason jars are affordable and small additions you can place throughout your patio. Throw a small Sherpa blanket over your chair. If you have a gate or railing, line it with some chicken wire. The perfect lights for this style are string lights with larger bulbs.

Take an old wooden serving tray or the top of an old wooden TV tray, sand it down, and whitewash it with paint. This is a perfect platform for some tiny succulent plants. These come in pale greens and deep purples that really add that little bit of color you may need in the midst of the natural wood and metal features. It wouldn’t be farmhouse chic without some tiny chalkboards that may display the different names of your succulent plants. If succulents aren’t your style, consider using little lavender or basil plants. Their fresh smell is perfect for lifting the spirits after a long day.

3. Classic Look

A nice classic style can really be inviting after a day of work or school. There is nothing like piling into a fluffy bed with clean and crisp sheets. Who says your patio can’t reflect this same style and bring the same feelings of ultimate comfort? The first petite inspiration for this space would be miniature candles with the fresh linen scent. Strategically place these inside of small white candleholders so you can keep a crisp and clean look.

Add some fluffy white pillows to your chairs and a small linen throw over the backside of a bench or chair. On the door, hang a small boxwood wreath. If you have a side table, two tiny topiaries are a great way to tie this look together. Your primary color scheme can be white, with a little pop of color. The perfect lights for this style are twinkle lights. String them along the bottom of your furniture or wrap them into one of your topiaries.

A small monogram metal wall sign is perfect for breaking up all the white. You’ll want a fancier style for your letters to keep things elegant. Add a couple of glossy white-coated knick-knacks to your table décor. This is an excellent way to insert your personal style and keep things classy. You may start your project by finding a knick-knack that really inspires you personally.

4. Personalized Design

Maybe you aren’t looking for clean lines and simplicity in your special space. A patio is a place to unwind, but it is also a place to entertain. You may want to design this small area in a more flamboyant and inspirational way that really shows your individual style. There are plenty of tiny ways you can make your patio both fun and personalized. You want your friends leaving with a better understanding of how you tick. This is a perfect place to display individuality.

Invest in some small pillows that really convey your style. Adding several colors to the furniture palette will help tie together all your other decorations. Cover your side table with a small, tasseled tablecloth. Display a collection of bottles or trinkets have collected from your travels. You want to really reflect your own memories through the design process.

Place small frames throughout the patio that are filled with happy, bright photographs of your family and friends. Display your interests into the décor by placing knick-knacks or pieces of art on the railing of your patio. Just don’t let a small patio keep you from building the ideal outdoor space. You can transform even the smallest balcony into an urban paradise!
