Is your patio a neglected part of your home, left alone and sad, collecting dust as time goes by? You can change that by going through a set of steps meant to make your gardening and landscaping easier, but that also includes an excellent-looking patio. The methods may vary because of potential materials you have to work, but you will need to follow a set of basic guidelines to complete the job, no matter what kind of garden you have to work with, such as the following examples:

• 

  Begin by clearing out all items that simply don’t belong on the patio at all. This will really help in the process, as it will allow you to be more accurate when you work on things further down the line. The cleaning of the patio will be easier that way and you won’t have to deal with excess furniture and other items that could easily get in the way.

• The following step should be the sweeping of your patio from any potential debris and dust with a broom or even a vacuum cleaner if you think it will get the job done faster and better.

• You should also consider working on weeding the patio if it has any paving or slabs on it at all. Any cracks between the slabs mean you may have issues with sprouting weeds from abandoning the area for too long. You will have to deal with it as you move forward with the task, so consider what you can do about it without damaging the patio itself. This will greatly help with the maintenance of what you already have there.

• Whenever you need to apply a cleaner, you should make sure you follow the instructions very closely, as this will allow you to handle the task carefully. Wear some goggles if you feel you need to, as well as a good pair of gloves to keep your eyes and hands safe from harsher chemicals if you feel you need to use them. Cover the plants with a sheet so you can avoid sprinkling cleaners on them by accident. Let the chemicals do their magic for about 15 minutes or so and then wash them away following the instructions you have on your bottles.

• Once you’re done with this you will need to focus on properly scrubbing the patio until you are certain it has been cleaned as thoroughly and completely as possible. There are a couple of ways you can get behind that task, starting with doing it by hand or by attempting to make it happen with a pressure washer. Do keep in mind you will need to be extra careful as you could easily strip the paint off your patio or whatever is protecting it if it is made of wood, so you may need to do some maintenance work if the wood has been stained by dirt for too long, allowing it to shine once more.
