Color of the Year Announced

marsala-thmbEach year, the Pantone® Color Institute announces its choice of the “Color of the Year”. And for 2015, think red wine.

The color chosen is named Marsala, which is a red-brown wine shade. It gets its name from the red wine produced in the region near the Italian city of Masala, located on the west coast of the “rock” that the boot-shaped Italy is kicking!

Given the significance of the Pantone color of the year, you can expect to see it in many, wide-ranging color pallets, in interior design, fashion and beauty products.

Pantone’s Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman describes Marsala as “a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth.” However it is described, it is definitely a sophisticated hue, rich in depth, and able to be coordinated with many other colors for a warm, inviting environment.

Sunbrella® fabrics are available in hues that are complementary to this trend. Their Canvas Burgundy and Dupione Henna shades can be used with accents in the striped fabric, Brannon Redwood or Weston Ginger, or even a floral fabric like Aria Teak.

Social media is buzzing… Even Elle magazine says it is breaking out the wine: “The Pantone color of the year is making us thirsty.”!

If you’re doing any redecorating in your home this Spring, perhaps you should consider the Marsala hues. The richness, warmth and depth of colors can make a dramatic statement, yet in a subtle way. Think about it for your patio furniture cushion redo, as well as in wall art or paint.
